Nowadays there’s a podcast for everything be it serialized dramas or self-help programming, so it only makes sense that there is also a plethora of podcast dedicated just to cybersecurity. These series provide a great (and easy) way to stay informed. Listen while you’re on your way to work or answering emails. Who knows? You might just learn something new.
Here are a few of my favorite podcasts for staying informed on security trends and developing news.
Security Now!
Two tech and cyber security enthusiasts co-host this podcast sharing tech and security news as well as new ways to tackle issues in the industry. As described on Twit.Tv, “Steve Gibson, the man who coined the term spyware and created the first anti-spyware program, creator of Spinrite and ShieldsUP, discusses the hot topics in security today with Leo Laporte.” While it’s lead by Gibson, a tech giant, the duo does a nice job of tailoring the show to a variety of skill sets. Some episodes pertain to high-level industry concepts, while others focus on more general applications for the masses. The series began in 2005, so there’s a plethora of content. With more than 650 episodes, you won’t struggle to find a session that peaks your interest. Your biggest problem will become finding a way to binge all their sessions as quickly as possible.
Risky.Biz
Risky.Biz acts as a blog and podcast hybrid. As explained on their website, “Published weekly, the Risky Business podcast features news and in-depth commentary from security industry luminaries.” Wired recognized the podcast as the security industry’s more informative podcast. You won’t want to miss it.
The Social-Engineer Podcast
As Dan Patterson describes, “Humans are often the weakest link in an organizational security chain. Social engineering, a time-tested hacker tactic, is the practice of tricking someone into revealing sensitive information like network passwords.” This podcast attempts to combat these cybersecurity issues and inform listeners. Episodes consist of a soothing soundtrack, panel discussions and in-depth interviews with professionals from the field. The team’s catchphrase is ‘security through education’, be it personal or corporate.
SANS Internet StormCast
If you find yourself strapped for time and can’t commit to a full Security Now or Risky.Biz episode, this is the series for you. Each weekday you can catch a five to ten minute mini session with important tidbits from information security. They also answer questions posed by listeners.
Happy listening!
